The Sony PSP is more than a game player. This may be overstating the obvious, but the half-a-million people who purchased one in its introductory weeks bought it primarily for that purpose.

What Sony is actually achieving with this portable gamer is to simultaneously put a personal media player (PMP) into the hands of millions of users. Today, you use your PSP for personal entertainments over and above playing games. Watching movies and listening to music are just some of them.

Do You Really Need An iPOD?
The fact is that PSP is able to play good music. For most people, the sound quality is good enough for listening to their favorite music. If you don’t mind the size, and obviously you don’t for the fact that you had purchased the PSP game console, this is an alternative to iPOD. Moreover, you can actually watch music video on it as well. The keyword here is “good enough” in terms of sound quality. Is PSP going to replace iPOD? Certainly not. Most of the people are not too concerned about the one-time cost of purchasing the PSP Game Console. However, as they start to purchase the games and movies, some will start to fill the pain of maintaining it. Of course there are some ways to cut the course. One way that I know of  is to purchase games on discount after it had become “dated”.  The other way is to seek membership downloads.
